A visit to the Sjöfartsmuseet (Maritime Museum) gives you exciting insight into the development of shipping in and around Oskarshamn.
The large collection of marine paintings, nautical instruments and model ships takes you on a voyage in history from a 10th century log boat to the shipbuilding industry of the 20th century.

"The Döderhultarmuseet displays a unique collection of more than 200 wooden sculptures by Axel Petersson (1868-1925) from Döderhult, who was known as the Döderhultarn. In a skilful and humorous way, his sculptures illustrate life in Småland at the turn of the last century. Småland’s town dwellers and inhabitants of rural areas have been expressively portrayed in everyday situations and special occasions in life. Cows, pigs and galloping horses – everything made from simple logs. A visit here is an unforgettable experience!
The Döderhultar Museum is together with the Maritime Museum housed in the centre for culture Kulturhuset in the heart of Oskarshamn. The building includes video exhibitions and a museum shop. The museums are accessible for people with disabilities (Official Oskarsham page) .

This splendid manor-house is beautifully situated west of the town of Oskarshamn. An elegant example of late-Gustavian decor, it is lifted on a five metre high granite stone terrace, which is reached by a double flight steps. It is one of the finest and most noteworthy country-seats in the province.
The prorietor Peter Reinke Cederbaum and his wife Maria Frederika Cederbaum had the house built in characteristic Gustavian-age style. It is, for this reason, a treasure of all that is typical of the culture of that era, and few Swedish manor-houses are able compare with it.
The stateroom offers a faithful picture of the period, with it's fine woodwork, tiled stoves and furnishings. There are also some of nothern Europe's most interesting murals painted linnet. Masterpieces of the art can be seen at their most shining in the Pompeian parlour.
A guided tour of the manor-house provides an informed insight into the way-of-life in just such a residence in tha latter part of the 18th century, not only in it's relation to the swedish life-style of the period but also the cultural ties to the rest of Europe.
Donations made by Mrs Anna Wernstedt especially allows us to show this unique collection of furniture and objects that are part and parcel of the cultural history of 18th century Sweden.

The old manor kitchen now houses a restaurant and café. The café is open in the summer and sometimes includes musical entertainment.

 

The Village of Stensjö - Stensjö By

Stensjö By takes you far back in time. Enjoy the old culturally significant landscape around this village, which retained its fragmented holdings, contrary to land consolidation reforms. The village contains buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. The cluster of red-painted buildings stands in light, open landscape, with winding narrow gravel tracks and miles of traditional Swedish wooden fencing. This is a landscape that has been shaped by hayfields and pastures for hundreds of years and is still maintained using traditional techniques. Sheep, cows and pigs graze in the enclosed pastures. Four walking trails twist and turn through the attractive scenery.
