Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
In 1976 the State Museum Of Amateur And Folk Arts was opened. There is a unique collection of old icons, books and pictures in the museum. "The Vetka national crafts museum was centered around icons of the 17th – beginning of the 20th century and hand-written and published books of the 16th – the beginning of the 20th century collected in the Vetka region. Among unique exhibits there are old books published by Russian and Belarusian printers of the 16th century Ivan Fedorov and Piotr Mstislavets published in 1574 and 1569.
The exposition of the museum was opened in 1987. It was housed in a 19th century mansion. The exposition gives a good insight into the history and culture of this region of Gomel oblast.
In 1680-1770 Vetka became the center of the schism having turned into a mainstay of the followers of the old manner of worshiping. Vetka preserved and even invigorated cultural ties with Muscovy.
Alongside with articles of worship the museum displays a nice ethnographic collection featuring traditional embroidery, national costumes and household appliances.
In 2001 a new exposition opened in the museum following a period of reconstruction and refurbishment." (Gomel Oblast Executive Council)
