Frostbrunnsdalen is a nature reserve consisting of a 1100 m long and 20 m deep valley on Tunaslätten.

The goal with the reserve is to give Frostbrunnsdalen’s rich flora and fauna a possibility to survive, to prevent and stop overgrowing which leads to an impoverment of plant and animal life, to make some parts of Fortsbrunnsdalen accessible to people and to preserve cultural values.

In the 17th Century, a bathing facility was here, later on a soda factory with the spring water as raw material, and today it serves as the municipal water supply. Lush verdure, birds and unusual insects." (Borlänge Municipality)

Just over three kilometres west of Torekov is Hallands Väderö, an island surrounded by a host of small islets. The island is a cultural treasure and a haven for nature lovers. In the spring the forests are lit up by wood anemone in full bloom, and the summer months offer delightful bathing. This is the forest where Ronia and Birk became friends for life, in Astrid Lindgren's ‘Ronia the Robber's Daughter'. Väderö is exotic and stimulates feelings of freedom and excitement. The boat to the island leaves from Torekov, and the journey is an experience in itself. The museum in Kappelhamn and the little cafe in Sandhamn are two ‘musts' on your trip to Väderö.

Hennan Station

Swedish Railway Museum

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
The village of Hennan lies beside Lake Hennan some 200 kilometers north of Gävle. Hennan Station was built in 1880 on the Storvik-Ange section of the Northern Main Line. It was closed in 1968 and was then used by the Army as a storage depot. For many years it was on SJ’s list of stations to be demolished.

The Swedish Railway Museum had long been looking for a suitable station to complete its station setting in the Museum grounds. Finally, after many ifs and buts, Hennan Station was brought to the Museum grounds. Hennan Station is an Ashammar-type station, a standard type often used in northern Sweden. So it fits in very well with the Museum’s other buildings.

The ground floor, with its ticket office, waiting room and goods section, has been preserved intact, giving visitors a true-to-life picture of a station of yesteryear. And to strengthen the impression, we intend to lay out a typical station garden of the period beside the station. The first part of the Hennan Station project was ready in time for TRAIN 150, when the station buildings were re-opened on 9 September during the 150th anniversary celebrations.

Karlsholms Iron Works

SE- Karlsholm (Örebro län)

Google Maps

Info Telefon: +46 (0) 294 - 40505

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
„Karlsholm bruk was established in 1719 by the de Geer family, who were of Walloon origin, and is one of the most important monuments of the iron industry in Sweden. In the 18th century wrought-iron was made in a Walloon forge and rolled in a plate mill, but in 1879 a Lancashire forge was constructed, and worked until the early 1930s. It is exceptionally well-preserved, and visitors are able to see Lancashire hearths, water-powered and steam-powered hammers, a rolling mill and water wheels. The manor house of the bruk, a bell tower and workers’ dwellings remain alongside the forge buildings.“ (ERIH)
