The facilities managed by the Nordmark Heritage Association are found on "Tanner's Croft", situated at the end of "Hembygdsvägen" (Heritage Road) near the vicarage.

They include:

Nordmark Mining Museum, with collections of tools and machines used in mining.
Mineralmuseum
Maps, photographs, models (including a 10 m2 model showing the mining facilities as they were in the 1920s).
A gun smithy from the 18th century.
A furnace-master's home, a single- entrance duplex construction from the 18th century.
An earth- covered cabin from the 19th century.
A cafe and meeting hall.
 

Tage Erlander and Erlandergarden Museum

Tage Erlander was Prime Minister of Sweden for 23 years (1946-1969). He was born in Ransäter in 1901. The home of his childhood is now the Erlandergarden Museum. The school he attended is nearby. His father was Erik Gustaf Erlander, school teacher and parish clerc. Throughout his life Tage Erlander kept close personal contact with his native village. He was buried here in 1986.

A large exhibition in the beautiful commemeration hall, allows visitors to follow the eventful life of "father of the country" Tage Erlander, and also Sweden´s political development.

Värmland´s Museum is situated on Sandgrundsudden about 500 meters north of the Town Square.

Värmlands museum is located close to the river Klarälven, at the Sandgrundsudde. Here you find exhibitions about the history of Värmland, starting from the ice-age to our time. The historical journey is described with images, objects and music. There are also temporary exhibitions of varying kinds and sorts. The museum is housed in two buildings. The oldest one is from 1929 and was designed by Cyrillus Johansson. In 1998 the new museum was completed with a passage conecting the two buildings. Värmlands Museum today has an exhibition area of 3 000 square meters and also has an auditorium with 160 seats. In the cafe and the restaurant you can enjoy a snack or a good meal. The gift shop has a lot of quality products made in Värmland, handicrafts, souvenirs and books.

Karlstad´s School Museum is located in the centre of Karlstad opposite the Cathedral. The museum has a large collection of school objects, educational material from mid 19th century and school uniforms.

The Former Prison is situated about 500 meters southeast of the town Square.

The former prison in Karlstad was one of the first cell prisons in Sweden when it was inaugurated in 1847. It was built in neoclassic style and was inspired by ancient Greek and Italian architecture. During the 121 years the prison was in use thousands of prisoners have been kept in the 91 cells. In 1968 the prison was shut down. Today there is a museum in the cellar where you can see what the solitary confinement cells looked like. In 1986 the prison was converted into a hotel and the old cells were transformed into pleasant hotel rooms.

Alster´s Manor is located close to highway E18, about 9 km east of Karlstad.

Alsters Herrgård is the birth place of the famous Swedish writer Gustaf Fröding. He was born in the beautiful white country house in the year 1860. The building goes back to the 17th century when there was a stone house on the site. In 1772 was the stone house was replaced by the country house. It was Jan Fröding, grandfather of Gustaf, who provided Alsters Herrgård with its present exterior. The country house functions today as a memorial monument to Gustaf Fröding and has a permament exhibition about the writer.
