The museum shows the relationship the small town Brouwershaven, located on the northernmost island in Zeeland, Schouwen-Duiveland, maintained with the shipping industry. The economic and social history of the town plays an important role in the collection, which is housed in two prestigious historical buildings along the former commerce and fishermen's harbour of the town, now the domain of the pleasure boating industry. You will find authentic ship models, maritime paintings, topographical maps, navigational charts, engravings etc. The collection also contains a number of objects that characterize former life at sea and in the harbor. Navigational instruments at sea or on the coast, a portion of the 15-17th century gold trading coins found in Brouwershaven, models of ship artillery and several other interesting and/or curious items.

The Ecoscope, a play and hands-on museum which allows you to experience the environment, the mega-trend of the 21st century, is set in four cultural history gardens in which the history and future of agriculture and use of space can be seen. In computer games and hands-on activities, you can learn about technological developments in the field of nature and environment. Everything is incorporated in events that allow you to make choices and thereby determine the course of the game and the state of nature and the environment. There is plenty for children to discover and in the laboratory you can learn everything about nature through experiments.

The museum collection consists of over 30,000 items that recall Zeeland’s past, including fpr example the famous Zeeland tapestries and the historical collection of the Royal Zeeland Scientific Society, with unusual objects such as a baby dragon, an ivory pocket sundial and an Indian headdress. The Zeeland Collection is the most extensive collection of Zeeland heritage in the world.
The museum also contains the Province of Zeeland’s collection of contemporary art, including work by Marinus Boezem, Piet Dieleman and Jan van Munster.
The main collection fields of the museum are Zeeland tapestries and the Eighty Years’ War, traditional costumes, jewellery and accessories, porcelain and silver, archaeological finds, old paintings and applied art as well as modern and contemporary art and also natural history, fossils and shells.

The permanent exposition presents the history of the remarkable village between dike and lighthouse and her inhabitans. You will get to know Westkapelle and the surroundings as well as the origin of the dike village, together with the old customs and habits of the community, the importance of the dike and the dikeworks. The exposition also pays attention to the period of the second World War with bombings on dikes of Walcheren in 1944, the inundation that followed, the closing of the dike and the reconstruction of the village.

In the peninsula of Walcheren people have been trying for hundreds of years to produce their own silk. The museum shows you this rather uncommon part of the history. The whole production process from the silkworm till the woven and handpainted silken finished product is displayed.
