Year of foundation: 1953.

"Virovitica Municipal Museum was founded in the autumn of 1953, when it was known as the Virovitica Municipal and District Museum. Since its foundation it has assembled materials from the district, city, later the municipality and today the county of Virovitica. According to the type of material that it collects and the area it covers, the museum is of the complex and local history type. Many valuable and diverse materials have been acquired by gifts, purchase and research, particularly of folk costumes and other items of folk weave, tools for cloth working, guild charters, city dwellers’ furnishings, sculpture from the Chapel of Holy Cross in Sedlarica, archaeological findings from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages, artworks, old books, documents and photographs. A permanent display of the collections has been set up on the first floor of the palace, consisting of selected items. In the two larger exhibition room the art collection of contemporary Croatian fine artists is presented, given to the museum in 1982 by Branislav Glumac, a writer who lives in Zagreb but is from Virovitica by family. The museum has from its foundation been located in the Pejačević Palace, a Category I monument, surrounded by grounds in the centre of the city." (Text and picture: MDC)

Year of foundation: 1969.

„The Petar Preradović Museum is located in the poet’s birth house in Grabovnica (municipality of Pitomača) that was built in the 18th century. In 1962, at the initiative of Luko Hrvatić, teacher at the Petar Preradović Elementary School in Pitomača, a campaign was started to mark the 150th anniversary of the poet’s birth. As part of this celebration, the building was restored from top to bottom and a museum display was organised in it. The museum is placed in two rooms. The museum provides a chronological presentation of the poet’s life and work (copies of MSS, photographs and documents from the National and University Library in Zagreb, the Croatian State Archives, Croatian Academy Archives, Croatian Academy Institute for Literary and Theatre Studies, the Bjelovar Municipal Museum and original items that were given to the museum by local people and the poet’s heirs). The selection of material, the chronology of the life and work of Preradović and the museum catalogue were the work of Vida Flaker and Dragutin Tadijanović, who at that time worked in the Institute for Literature and Theatre Studies, while the visual set up of the museum was worked out by the painter Edo Kovačević.“ (Text and picture: MDC)

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
The arboretum Lisicine was founded in 1963 under direct leadership of the graduated engineer Djuro Jorgic from Podravska Slatina. The forest organization on its region, at the village of Lisicine, has founded the arboretum on the surface of about 50.0 ha. About 1.500 taxa from the Balkan dendroflora and some more important species from the other continents have been represented in it till these moments.

Favorable natural conditions, geographic position, terrain configuration, climate and edaph opportunities and also the social fitness enable a good perspective, as for the arboretum development and it gives chances for its widening in future. It is a fact that there are few objects of this type in our country, it points out to the great importance for developing of the arboretum and becoming significant not only for Slavonia but even more widely.

It is very favorable that the arboretum has been established by the forest organization, a guarantee of order to achieve the fixed aims. Ideas and project realization for arranging of the arboretum Lisicine have been the personal preoccupation of Djuro Jorgic from the day of the foundation till today. He had the idea into the consideration it the very beginning of his profession and it has been totally realized.
