Öffnungszeiten/Opening hours
Today the museum is used by undergraduate students, visiting school parties, as a venue for School of Biology receptions and is on open to the general public on Tuesday and Friday afternoons in the summer vacation – early June until mid September. The museum is also open on a Saturday as part of National Science Week in the Spring, and on a Sunday in September as part of Doors Open.
Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
The Bell Pettigrew Museum of Natural History was founded, and most specimens acquired, during the heyday of the Victorian age, when collecting was all the rage. Most towns and cities had a museum similar to this one, with many specimens displayed in a relatively small space. Although this Museum has been altered and updated on occasion, it retains its original feel - the entire museum, with its original cases, and superb mosaic floor, is a valuable survivor from a bygone age.
The core purpose of today’s museum is to allow the evolutionary and taxonomic relationships between the animals to be clearly understood in the light of the characteristics defining each phylum. We aim to explain this to different groups of visitors ranging from primary schools to Zoology undergraduates. Other themes include biodiversity, the history of biology at St. Andrews and the interaction between art and science.

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
Relive the domestic life of the 16th and 17th centuries at this riverside Royal Burgh. The old buildings and cobbled streets create a fascinating time warp for visitors. Close your eyes and you can almost hear the calls of medieval street vendors selling their wares and the clang of hammers on metal as the Hammermen of Culross fashioned the famous girdles.
Explore the beautiful refurbished Palace which dates from 1597 - imagine what it would have been like to live within the splendid interiors, featuring painted woodwork, and 17th- and 18th-century furniture. Take a wander around the reconstructed early 17th-century palace garden, perhaps meeting the Scots Dumpy hens who supply eggs for the Bessie Bar tearoom.

Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery, set in the grounds of the town's War Memorial Gardens, houses a collection of fine and decorative arts of local and national importance. The collection also includes a significant number of works by the Glasgow.
The ground floor features an award winning permanent local history display. A lively, changing exhibition programme of art, craft, history and photography runs throughout the year.
As well as providing excellent coffee and an attractive selection of homebaking the popular museum café features a fine display of Wemyss Ware pottery, the colourful local ceramic ware which was formerly produced in the town.
