The Museum in Pilsen was founded in 1878 and is considered to be one of the largest ones in the Czech Republic. Architect Josef Skorpil projected the building in the Neorenaissance style with Art-Nouveau interiors at the end of the 19th century. The inner decoration was carried out by front czech artists, for example Celda Kloucek, Augustin Nemejc, Vojtech Saff. It naturally became a cultural monument as well as an important point of the historical city centre.

The city armoury with its unique collection of late middle age fire-arms is one of the best preserved medieval municipal armouries. Since November 1998 visitors are alowed to enjoy impressive space of the re-opened Museum library, together with the Expositon hall and the Lecture hall. Representative Jubilee hall opened door for public in April 2000. Many concerts, lectures, conferences and company-presentations take place in the Lecture hall, first of all because of its advantageous combination of dignified atmosphere and modern audiovisual technic.

Constituant part of the Museum are the expositions of the Ethnografic museum of Pilsen region in Chotìšovský and Gerlachovský House on the Republic square n. 13, presenting life and work of the inhabitants in Pilsen and Pilsen region.

In 1997 the Museum established a remote branch – Simon Adler´s museum in Hartmanice-Dobrá Voda where fortunes of the Jewish minority living in 110 extinct communities are shown.

Brewery Museum tour
The Brewery Museum is located in the authentic medieval brewing house with malt house, which has been declared a cultural monument.

The Museum includes the late Gothic malt house, kiln, original drying shed and two-level laying-down cellars with ice-cellar, which are hewn from the Pilsen substrata. The exhibition covers Pilsen's most ancient history, the development of crafts, the emergence and growth of the guilds, the beginnings and development of brewing, malting, the craft of cooper, haulage and catering.

The tour includes a replica of a pub from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and a laboratory from the second half of the 19th century. The city walls have been opened with an example of the cultivation of barley and hops. The museum tour can be used as history, elementary teaching, the social sciences etc.

Following the Museum tour we invite you to the Na Parkanu Beer House, which is the only place in the world where visitors can go back one hundred years and taste unfiltered beer - the pale lager Pilsner Urquell - just as our ancestors enjoyed it!
