With a surface of 2,5 ha the Hasselt Japanese Garden is the largest of its kind in Europe. It reflects the Japanese landscape. It was constructed in 1992 with the help of the Japanese city of Itami (sister city of Hasselt), based on the pattern of 17th cent. Japanese tea gardens.
The Garden consists of three parts :
a transition area between the (more Western-looking ) Kopermolenpark and the central Japanese Garden,
the Central Garden with its ceremonial house and its tea house (where tea demonstrations can be seen), the pond with its numerous Japanese fish and its waterfalls,
a park with 250 Japanese cherry trees.

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
At the Pentecostal chapter of 1217, St. Francis of Assisi sent his followers, not only to regions in Italy, but also to other countries. Traces of the Friars Minor can be found in almost every town in Flanders.
The Museum of Flemish Friars Minor is not just a museum of religious art, it also manages the religious heritage of an order which is spread throughout Flanders. The collection consists mainly of religious works of art: paintings (16-19th century), sculptures (14-19th century) icons, graphic work, liturgical silver and textiles, a Franciscan gradual (1515), devotionalia, relics, etc.
